Whenever I save using Ctrl+S or the Save button, after about 3-5 seconds the window sort of 'loses focus', the mouse cursor which is supposed to be an hourglass when playing SC4 turns into the spinning blue cursor you usually get when loading stuff, and it says on the windows title bar that it is 'not responding'. If I do something stupid like changing windows or click-spamming then the screen turns whitish (the way it does typically with non-responsive programs). Sensible enough to not do this and just wait patiently.BUT if I don't do anything and just wait, then after about 15-60 seconds it says that the game is saved. (I consider this quite normal for save times) The save itself seems OK.the problem is that when this happens the region view of the city looks completely blank. It gets blank every time the save goes on with the aforementioned symptoms, and I have to tell you, it's very common - much more often then not.Once, a city got corrupted once so I had to load it from a backup, but that's only once. Maybe it has something to do with me attempting about a dozen saves of the exact same thing.SC4 does this weird phenomenon most of the time. Sometimes it saves normally without any of this hassle or 'unresponsive' screens. I don't know exactly when I get the problem, but the problem seems to be more prevalent in highly developed tiles, because my 20,000 pop rural area does this not responding thing only once in a while, in my 80,000 town - about two-thirds of the time, so in about two or three save attempts I'm clear.

In my largest city of 950K I get this almost all the time. The game is playable but I have to say that trying 10, 20 times saving to just get a region screen view / or just look at blank green squares can be quite frustrating, and wonder if it is a technical problem that can be solved.I run version 1.1.640. The plugin folder is about 1.3GB in size, so excluding the NAM I don't think I have that many plugins.CPU: Intel Core i5-8250U (this is a laptop)RAM: 4 GBPagefile: 9353 MB, according to dxdiag (I dunno why, I recall setting this to 5120)GPU: GeForce 940MX / Intel UHD Graphics 620 (I use the former when running SC4)OS: Windows 10 version 1903 (build 10.0.18362)something 'special' - my C drive is running low on space so my pagefile.sys is on D. Maybe this might be a factor. Thank You for the Continued Support!Simtropolis relies mainly on member donations to continue operating. After all the commotion surrounding the new SimCity I decided I wanted to give the good ol' SC4 another go. I think that even though it is 10 years old, it looks a million times better than the new one. To my huge disappointment, SimCity 2013 looks childish, bland and boring to me. In my opinion 3D is way worse than the beautiful classic isometric look of SC4 for this franchise.Another thing is that the online community surrounding SC4 is still quite alive, with thousands of free mods that'll turn your game into anything you can dream of. While I have no interest whatsoever in the new SimCity, it did manage to make me excited again for its 10 year old predecessor, pretty crazy huh? Just look at what's within your power with some nice custom mods and tell me this game is not still insanely relevant:.So I set out and quickly discovered I can't use my old copy of SC4 Deluxe on my current system (10.8.2) and anywhere I looked I couldn't find a relevant, updated guide on how to get around this. So I took matters into own hands and finally, after 3 days of troubleshooting I now have a perfectly stable, fully working and fully updated version of SC4 Deluxe on my Mac with dozens of perfectly working mods installed.

I thought it would be a good idea to share how I did it with the community since it seems that there are still lots of people interested. So, without further ado, here's how to do it:DISCLAIMER: This method depends on the full version for Windows and while you don't need to actually own either the Mac or Windows version (or both) for it to work, it's the legal thing to do. If you own just the Mac version, I think this method should still be legal because as far as I know having one version grants you a licence for the other one automatically. Don't take my word for it though, I'm not sure! Just my two cents. To be perfectly legal you might have to buy the Windows version and use that one instead of a torrent.

That being said, I'm not responsible if any of you breach copyright and quite frankly, I don't give a fuck!:D.First thing you need to do is download.Go to your favourite torrent site and search for 'SimCity 4 Deluxe', make sure you download a full Windows version with lots of positive comments. I'm not gonna point you to a specific URL because I'm not your mom. There should be plenty of hits on the piratebays and kickasstorrents' of the world. Also, don't worry about cracks or NoCD's that might or might not be included, we'll get that from somewhere else.

Be sure to find one with a serial.txt file though. When it finishes downloading, extract it and mount the two ISO's you'll find inside, they're probably named 'SC4DELUXE1.iso' and 'SC4DELUXE2.iso'.Extract your Wineskin zip and open 'Wineskin Winery'.Click on the '+' sign, select the latest engine available and click on 'Download and Install'.Click 'Create new blank wrapper' and name it however you want, I named mine: 'SimCity 4 Deluxe'. And wait for Wineskin to do its thing. When asked to install 'Wine Mono', click cancel. When asked to install 'Wine Gecko', click cancel.Wineskin will ask you to view your wrapper in the finder, let it do so.

Note that it's in 'User'/Applications/Wineskin/.fn-double click the wrapper you just created. If you don't have an 'fn'-button, just right-click the wrapper and choose 'Show package contents' and open the 'Wineskin' app you'll find there.Click 'Install Software'.Click 'Choose Setup Executable'.Navigate to 'SC4DELUXE1.iso' and choose 'setup.exe'.Choose your language and give it the serial number that came with your downloaded copy.Install it in the default path. (c:Program FilesMaxisSimCity 4 Deluxe).Choose 'Register Later'.Mumble 'Yeah, yeah, yeah' to yourself and click 'Ok'.Marvel upon those beautiful isometric high-rises on the install screen while you wait. Don't worry, it'll take a few minutes. I own SimCity 4 Deluxe for Windows. When I got a shiny new iMac, I bought the Mac version of SimCity 4 as well, as I thought the iMac would be wonderful for running an old game on maximum settings.I was wrong. The Mac version is a bag of dicks.

Not just one dick, or a few. A whole bag. This guide got my Windows version working wonderfully when I followed it (with the exception of installing from the CDs, rather than torrented copies). A would upvote again.A problem arose, however: When I pan the camera up or down there's some horrible 'smearing'; graphics don't seem to update until I zoom in or out. Panning up leaves a trail of whatever was on the screen, smudged as horrible textures. Is there a way to overcome this or am I forced to put up with it? (It might be helpful for anyone hoping to give a useful reply to know that my graphics card is an AMD Radeon HD 6970M with 2GB of RAM. Or it might not.).

Glad I could help!I don't get the texture smearing, although I do get some tooltip flickering, nothing too serious though. Maybe try playing around with your in-game graphic settings? On my search for fixing the tooltip glitch I did stumble upon some advice to to fix certain graphics issues, I think they were even talking about the 'smearing' you describe. After installing go into your wrapper settings (fn-click your wrapper). Go to Advanced Options and check the box titled 'Force use of system installed XQuartz instead of using built in WineskinX11'.

I disabled it because it gave me more glitches but it might work for you.Alternatively you could try to go into 'Set Screen Options' (again, in your wrapper menu) and play around with those settings, particularly the 'Use Mac Drive instead of X11' checkbox, if that doesn't work, try the other ones. Don't worry about fucking things up, if something goes wrong just go back and undo your settings. It's trial and error!. EDIT: The enter key worked. Things are a little glitchy, any adjustments of the graphic settings results in an immediate crash to desktop. THIS IS AWESOME!

Thanks!I followed these steps to a T, and thank you! When I launch I get 'Could Not Initialize Direct Draw' 'OK' If I click it, the game appears to load but then I receive an error about cannot initialize Hardware driver, switching to software driver. Then it simply sits there, black screen with an option to click OK but a clicking of the OK does nothing. Any ideas?Maybe I should add configuration: Macbook Pro Retina 15in Quad Core i7 650M Graphics.
