Hi,Thank you for contacting Microsoft Community. Your interest in Windows 10 is much appreciated. We understand how you feel about the situation. We're sorry for the trouble.Method 1: I suggest you to update drivers and check if that helps. Hello,I'm also having the problem, but. In my case:. In Windows 7: The monitor shows up just fine as an ASUS PA248Q. Yet, when I dual boot to Windows 10, it shows the same monitor as a 'Generic PnP Monitor.'
. My graphics card is at the current version and in fact I upgraded my graphic drivers 3 times since going to Windows 10. NOTE: I'm using the same graphics driver on both Windows 7 and 10. I did a CLEAN Windows 10 Professional installation as well as cleangraphics driver installation. The system has 2 other monitors and they show up just fine.
(They are a Dell U3014 and Dell ST2420L.)I went to the ASUS website looking for drivers and they said the Microsoft Windows update facility should recognize the monitor and download the correct driver. NOTE: This is what occurs on Windows 7 perfectly, BUT on Windows 10 it isn't recognizing themonitor as an ASUS PA248Q, downloading the correct driver, and installing it. Instead it says it is a generic PnP monitor, which is NOT true. Please advise.Bertram Moshier. When you say that ' I did a CLEAN Windows 10 Professional installation as well as clean graphics driver installation', have you did a clean install of Windows 10? Have youpurchased a new product key for Windows 10?I BOUGHTa copy of Windows 10 Professional RETAIL from Amazon.com.
It came on a 16GB flash drive (to me it looks to be a physically small flash drive). I booted it to start the install process, entered the product key I found on a white sheet of firm paper stuck ina sleeve in the booklet, which came with the copy of Windows 10.I also BOUGHTagain from Amazon a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate RETAIL. This was back in 2013. It came on an holographic DVD and again with a product key with a booklet.
I purchase the copy of Windows 7 Ultimate RETAIL, as the computer I purchased didn't come with an operatingsystem. Are you getting any error message? No error message in the traditional sense. I'm getting incorrect information, though, and (most likely) not all of the features of the monitor. An example of incorrect information is in the Device Manager. It says the monitor is a Generic PnP Monitorinstead of an ASUS PA248Q. As for the features of the monitor, I can't be specific, as I have yet to look beyond the Device Manager. IF the Device Manager doesn't recognize the monitor, then the rest of the display and settings for the monitor don't exist.I would like to inform you that if you perform a clean install of Windows 10 on the Computer, it will require a Windows 10 product key to activate it.What are you the license police? My copy is fully activated both Windows 7 and Windows 10.
Sigh, if all you can do is ask me about my license, well, then you're response has been worthless!Windows 10 comes as a free upgrade to current users of Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1 Computers with genuine Operating System. If Windows 10 is not activated, then it will go into reduced functionality mode.Again for second time, I am fully activated for both Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 and Windows 10 Professional. Why I chose to spend my money this way is not and should not be the issue here. Instead the issue is why the monitor for ME and OTHERS is not showingup properly to or through Windows Update. In Windows 7 it shows up correctly, but not in Windows 10.As for reduced functionality, I activated my copy of Windows 10 immediately upon booting up, as during the installation I gave it my unique product code. This is the code, which as I stated earlier came in the Windows 10 Professional package on a whitesheet of firm paper. Thus I completed my activation quickly and didn't even come close to the reduced functionality.Do I need to provide you proof of my Windows 10 Professional ownership? If so how do I do this and also insure I'm not turning the information over to someone who doesn't have permission from Microsoft to obtain this information?Do I need to explain why I decided to go the route of owning both Windows 7 and Windows 10 and not taking the migration route?
If so, please, review the threads I opened. You'll see earlier this year I opened a thread about running Windows 7 in a virtualmachine under Windows 10. I stated in the thread the reasons I'm will to spend the extra money and resources. Hello,I provided a reply back on the 3rd stating I bought both Windows 10 Professional and Windows 7 Ultimate from Amazon.com (and they both arrived using Amazon Prime, BTW).
They have their own product codes and it is my business, IMHO, that I didn't use themigration path. I did a CLEAN installation.I still can't get the monitor to show up on Windows 10 as other than a Generic PnP. While I can run the monitor in 1920x1200 and I assume 1200x1920, I am unable to use all the features through photo and drawing applications that use / enable specific monitorfeatures. When I boot to Windows 7 the monitor shows up with all of its full and correct information. Additionally, this allows applications to notice the monitor and use its features.Given others have the same issue, this isn't unique to my cleanly installed system. Can Microsoft and Asus work together to help your common customers, please?Bert.
Have the same issue. Have an Acer AL2016W monitor and it is recognized as generic.Have spent hours only to experience the issues stated above.going back to Windows 7I can't go back to Windows 7 (well not easily) as I decided to do a clean installation of Windows 10 Professional x64 and skip the free migration. (I did save an image of my C and D drive, though.)I know my monitor works properly on W7 for two reasons:A) Worked on W7 before I went to W10,B) As I have access to several W7 systems and hooked the monitor up to them. Why can't Microsoft get this to work???????????
